With her, we will talk about what being an environmental journalist means, how she chooses and builds her stories, and what works best to create awareness and push for change.

In today’s world, where all of us at some point or another are required to convince and engage other people on environmental topics and data, this is a great conversation that made me think about the way we tell stories and the role each one can have as a storyteller in these challenging times.

Here is some information about our guest:

Gelareh Darabi is a multi-platform journalist, documentary filmmaker, and international correspondent for Explorer, National Geographic Channel’s flagship documentary series.

Over the past decade, Gelareh has presented and produced documentaries across the globe, in countries such as Haiti, Afghanistan, Iran, Brazil, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has interviewed contributors in four languages, including French, Farsi, and Dari.

Gelareh’s work as a producer in interactive documentary and online video has helped win five Webby Awards, an SXSW Interactive Innovation Award, and an Online Journalism Award.

Gelareh’s writing and photography have contributed to a number of publications and news websites, including the New Internationalist, Huffington Post, and Al Jazeera online.

Gelareh is Tehran-born, Canada-raised, and currently resides in the US.
